BREAKING NEWS: Xinhua Press
New hostage in Iran from the Washington Post. There is negotiation between Iran and The
United States. Iran is demanding oil trade barriers open. The hostage is not injured yet, and
the demands are only made for the hostage reporter and no other hostages will be
released. The delegates from different countries are saying that the amount of violence is
unbearable, and some delegates say that the United States must react with peace and they
must give the Iranian government what they want. Also, with a slow return of the Iranian
assets, the delegates have hope that the hostages will be released at a slow rate.
Other delegates think that the United States government should take an aggressive
approach to getting the hostages back. Brown said “This is a direct act of war and we need
direct action!” Other countries are having arguments between delegates because of different opinions.
One of the Russian delegates says that this is a criminal act against an innocent reporter.
And the other delegate says that America has to stop seeing Iran as their doormat,
because Iran is able to overpower America. Most countries see this as a threat to an innocent life and there should be action to get him
back!
The Reporter From Washington Post Has Now Been Killed
After intense conversations between the delegates in many countries, the Americans
refused to Iran the money, and refused to open the oil barriers which immediately led to
the death of the Washington Post reporter. A sad realization between all the countries involved in the conflict.
Breaking | Washington Post Reporter taken hostage by Iran. Authorities say he may have only minutes to live.
Earlier today, Washington Post reporter Bowen Bapiro was taken hostage by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. This development occurs amid the broader ongoing Iranian hostage crisis. The reporter is currently being held in an unknown location, with limited contact. The hostage was permitted to briefly answer questions from reporters, in which he appealed to world leaders for help. The IRGC has demanded “payment and opening up multiple key oil trade barriers.” Pressure is at a high for the international community and ADHOC committee to respond. However, there is one common sentiment: that “there must be no compromise” President Reagan says that this “unjust taking of a third party reporter shows the Iranian government's lack of legitimacy.” This is a developing
story.
BREAKING NEWS! An American-based reporter held hostage in Iran is now Found!
The Iranians demanded payment and the opening up of multiple key oil trade barriers. This deal did not affect the other hostages who are currently being held. This capture was likely conducted by the Iranian government.
The committee was left with many thoughts which caused division. Some delegates claimed the violence was unbearable and the US should concede to Iran’s demands. Others expressed the belief that assets and sanctions should be put in place. Throughout the committee, delegates were saddened and disappointed. Ronald Reagan, calling journalists “beacons of truth,” is especially upset by what many are calling an act of war. Most delegates, including those against the United States party, urged Iran to release the third party hostage. However, some claimed that the US is using Iran as a supposed “doormat,” and that this capture was merely a retaliation toward the US. Eventually, the hostage was discovered and brought to safety. This discovery hasn’t ended division within the committee and delegates argue tirelessly without assent.

A WASHINGTON POST AUTHOR HAS BEEN HELD HOSTAGE IN IRAN! A CRISIS IS DEVELOPING INVOLVING A COUNTRY THAT WE LOVE.
The iranians are requesting money in order to release the hostage, and key oil trade barriers. The governments are risking money and a valuable trade in order for this reporter to return back to his land. Delegates,
including the ex president of Iran, have been agreeing to return the hostages. The president of the United States, who stated that journalists are the beacon of truth, is pushing the idea that he is disappointed in the country of Iran, as are many other delegates. How could someone, a "beacon of truth" be exposed to "the military's personal gain?" (Ench Honecker).
All delegates have been agreeing on fighting against Iran and the general feel of "disappointment". Returning the hostage is a crucial part of furthering the directives presented by this committee. This committee is hard-set on returning not just the reporter, but all the hostages taken by Iran. Hopefully, we will soon see ten more hostages returning from the clutches of the Iranians. A delegate is stating that the countries with hostages need to "stop using iran as a doormat" and retaliate in the same way. Another delegate is pointing fingers at the United States and others in the same bloc. The directives going around in this committee all have one main theme: release all the hostages taken by Iran.
Anwat Sadat brings up a good question: what will Iran request for bringing the otherhostages home? Joe Clark states that military action is on the horizon if the reporter is not released. Ronald Reagan is focused on "rooting out the cause", and Jimmy carter brings up the idea that with Iran taking some oil trade barriers, the price of oil in America should go down. Hossein Dehghan blamed the United States for this situation as they did not come to a conclusion with their negotiation. The directive known as the great compromise states that compromising is the only way to get the hostages back. To conclude, the delegates in this committee are all laser- focused on returning the hostages home.

Editorial -WHO
The following is a article by AfricaNews reporters John Gaffney and Emelia Braglia “Did you know that millions of people around the world are currently being affected by diseases that have not been around for millions of years. With many scientists calling for changes, what can you do to prepare? With climate change getting worse and worse every year
the earth is revealing viruses that have not been seen for a long time. This has become such a problem that the World Health Organization (WHO) is currently discussing this and how they can fix it.
The WHO had described this crisis as “As global temperatures rise, extensive permafrost regions, particularly in Canada, Alaska, Russia, Greenland, Iceland, Siberia, and Tibet, are
beginning to thaw. This is getting increasingly worrisome, as the poles are warming four times faster than the rest of the planet. Thawing that was not expected to occur until 2050 is already happening, threatening to unleash a host of ecological and health-related issues (Woodwell
Climate).”.While we understand that some of these diseases are from ice glaciers not particularly related to the African Peninsula, as the earth gets warmer and more is uncovered this crisis could
very easily spread to effect the continent.
This weekend two reporters from Africanews sat in on a session of the WHO, it seems like there is a deep sense of emergency within this session. One delegate from Switzerland said in her speech before the committee that “this could possibly be worse than chickenpox or maybe even Covid” from our conclusion top scientists don’t really understand what is at stake. This committee is focused on providing aid and research to underprivileged countries, possibly within the continent. The delegate from Kenya recounted “Global warming and natural disasters have destroyed everything.” The delegate suggested forming vaccine centers in undeveloped countries providing jobs and economic boosts to Kenya and many other countries. When asked how to pay for it the delegate offered to make the “rich” countries pay for it. A similar quote came from the delegate from Mexico, saying “I believe it (funding) is a big matter for wealthy countries such as the U.S and Canada. It seems like residents of the continent should be concerned and stay up to date on these issues that are facing its residents. One way to do this is making sure to read news and/or watch networks like AfricanNews. Another way is to reach out to the local government and urge them to remain in contact with the WHO, so that they know what resources they have available to them. The Kenya delegation urges readers that the best way to keep up with this is to stay educated. While we visited the WHO meeting we also had a few minutes to meet with the South African Delegation. The delegate points blame at wild fires and carbon emissions. Among both delegates, you will find a common call for action and unity within all countries.
We urge you all to stay up to date and we will keep you updated on this story.”
BREAKING NEWS! A British spy murdered and Margaret Thatcher left with a dangerous decision!
Harold Leonhart, a British spy, has been murdered by Argentinian police, sending shockthroughout the committee. Additionally, the other four spies held in captivity have been murdered. From this striking incident, Thatcher is facing a dilemma of giving a ransom of 100,000,000 Argentine pesos or sending in troops to retrieve the spies. This ransom is equivalent to 80,000 pounds, a hefty sum of money. However, the mission to retrieve the spies would be dangerous, potentially costing many lives. In response, a directive called “Retaliation Toward Argentinian Invasion” has been proposed by Sir Henry Leach, Enoch Powell, Margaret Thatcher, and Lord Carrington. This directive details Thatcher’s decision to send troops into Argentina to retrieve spies.Based on this decision, the committee is filled with tension, awaiting the results of this risky play. The priority now is to save as many lives as possible.

The following is a article by AfricaNews reporters John Gaffney and Emelia Braglia
Just in, English spies for the Cabinet of Marget Thatcher were captured by the Argentine government. One of the spies was Harold Leonhart. There are three still alive. The Argentinian Government is now requesting a ransom of 100,000,000 Argentine pesos. The Cabinet is currently divided if they should give this information to the public. This is after a failed resolution by the administration to send spies into Argentina. The Cabinet is still unaware of what to do with the spies that are currently being held captive. Some members of the cabinet want to pay the ransom, so more citizens' lives are not ruined. This is while other members of the cabinet do not want to look weak and pay the ransom. They are trying to find the best solution.
The story is subject to change as further information is released.
Update:
Thanks to PM Thatcher a plane has returned home with the spies on board. This has helped the former PM regain her popularity within the people of the United Kingdom. PM Edward Heath, who was made Prime Minister after Margaret Thatcher, was sick and died on the way to the hospital. It is believed that one of PM Thatcher's spies killed him.
The person who is responsible for this has been arrested. The public are outraged. The story is subject to change as further information is released.
BREAKING NEWS: Argentinans hold British spies for ransom. Margaret Thatcher refuses to negotiate: “[Britain is] not a weak nation.”
By Ben Lester and Shriya Iyer
Nov. 9, 2024 2:30 p.m. ET
Fearful of invasions into the Falkland Islands, Britain has defied Argentina for some time.
Specifically, Margaret Thatcher, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has been at the forefront of Britain’s resistance movement against Argentina’s government. Thatcher has cast suspicion on the legitimacy of Argentine politicians, who she insinuates are corrupt and not to be trusted. Moreover, according to Thatcher, the Argentinian government has a claim to the Falklands and are eager to expand their influence. Thatcher appeals, meanwhile, to the British citizenry, stating: “I believe that...my leadership, my decisions have been successful for the Conservative party. We [Britain] are not a weak nation.” Under Thatcher’s leadership, a group of British spies have infiltrated Argentine territory.
The spies’ assignment was simple; they were asked to observe Argentine bureaucrats and report as to whether they [the Argentines] planned to subjugate the Falklands. Ultimately, the spies, having been discovered in Argentina, were kidnapped and held for ransom there. In light of this, Thatcher refuses to buy off her own people, so as to undermine the authority of Argentine proxies. As a result, Thatcher finds allies in militarists in Parliament, such as Sir Henry Leach, who also do not want to pay the Argentinians. Conversely, though, Thatcher faces backlash from moderate conservatives, including politician Enoch Powell, who believe that the safety of Britain’s spies is imperative. The question remains, then, as to whether Thatcher’s favorability will endure the deceit of Argentinian rogues.

The presidential debate began this afternoon between two worthy candidates, current president Jimmy Carter and former governor of California, Ronald Reagan. President Carter spoke about how he would aim to lower oil prices, and mentioned that he completely understands any hatred against him. However, he also said that he thinks, “I've done such a good job”. Although many republics rolled their eyes at this comment, his supporting democrats cheered loudly. Ronald Reagan focused on saying that he would make the U.S a cheaper place to live in, quoting “the United States has been plunged into a pool of un-powerfulness under President Carter’s control,” and “Jimmy led us down a dark road in which many civilians were killed.” This speech closed with loud applause and a graceful bow from Reagan himself. The reawakening of old pathogens was already a concern to the World Health Organization due to the rapid thawing of permafrost, however, with the early release of these pathogens, these actions must be hastened. These old pathogens, often referred to as zombie pathogens, include diseases such as smallpox; one of the most deadly diseases in its day, wiping out millions of the global population. Despite having experienced some of these diseases in the past, modern medicine may not be able to address the diseases due to their age and dormancy. And the vast majority of these “zombie pathogens” are unfamiliar and unstudied, proving even more of a threat than diseases like smallpox, a conclusion with frightening connotations. Committee is currently ongoing, and action is still being deliberated.

BREAKING NEWS: ‘Jimmy Carter has given up on the American Dream’: Ronald Reagan vies for the presidency. | NYT
By Ben Lester and Shriya Iyer
Nov. 9, 2024 3:42 p.m. ET
Due to his inability to properly address the Iranian Hostage Crisis, Jimmy Carter has fallen out of favor with the American people. This is clear following the recent presidential debate between Carter and California governor Ronald Reagan. Reagan, during said debate, exchanged a variety of nasty comments with Carter, labeling him “Sleepy Jimmy” and accusing him of ‘killing the American Dream.’ Reagan’s comments, while vulgar, are not altogether unfounded: Carter’s lackadaisical administration directly contributed to the kidnapping and murder of a Washington Post reporter only recently. Hence, Reagan posits that Jimmy Carter is just “a little too flexible in the face of pressure.” Carter struggles, all the while, to defend his failings. During his debate with Reagan, Carter claimed that, by negotiating with Iran, he intended to put aside U.S. pride for the sake of American hostages. Carter said, also, that he “loves people and global relations.” Nevertheless, the American people just are not convinced. As Carter’s excuses grow in abundance, so, too, has Reagan’s popularity. That said, it remains to be seen as to whether Carter can reclaim the hearts of the American people, despite Reagan’s charismatic air.

In a groundbreaking update to the constant deadly series of kidnappings, inparticular of reporters, journalists, and those who seek to find the truth about Iran’s true intentions, a benevolent reporter–one of our own–was taken hostage earlier today. Upon asking the newest hostage about the state of his predicament, the BBC was able to draw certain conclusions. First of all, when asked for what statement or opinion he was detained, the hostage said unwillingly that he didn’t know.
Following this remark, he was asked if he regretted any opinions he showed towards the members of the Iranian Hostage Crisis Committee, to which he stated he does not regret any opinions expressed. Practically being held at gunpoint by the vicious forces surrounding him, it is likely that he felt uncomfortable answering truthfully. One can come to the conclusion that he said an inflammatory statement that does not align with the values of the current Iranian government. Moreover, if we take into account high terrorist activity at this moment in time, it is likely that he was the victim of one of many kidnappings that aim to purge journalism as we know it and destroy all understanding of current events concerning their largely unknown activities to the outside world.
Overall, tensions in Room 267 were high, and it is likely that the hostage’s situation came as a result of remarks that did not resonate well with those who aim to keep terrorist activity and their true intentions for kidnapping the reporter a complete and utter secret, even if it means harming innocent journalists. The BBC will post updates about the hostage’s situation later today.
Update: The hostage allegedly died in an unexpected turn of events, although no traces of his body have been found as of this moment. Law enforcement officials in the local area will be tasked with investigating the murder scene and finding traces of his body so that his family can go through with a funeral and mourn appropriately. This story will serve as a reminder of the injustice and sacrifice journalists must face, and the importance of remembrance.

Iran kidnaps Washington Post Reporter: “[We are] not your doormat, America!”
By Ben Lester and Shriya Iyer
Nov. 9, 2024 11:00 a.m. ET
Regarding the ongoing hostage crisis in Iran, the Iranian government has made its intentions crystal clear: it refuses to be subject to Western forces and is determined to assert its independence. Moreover, under the leadership of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the Iranians recently took another prisoner—an innocent Washington Post reporter, of whom remains anonymous. Initially, the Iranian government promised no harm to this hostage, ensuring that he was safe and well cared for. However, the release of said hostage was contingent on Western payment in oil and an opening of trade oil barriers. Evidently, the United States refused to give into these [Iranian] demands; hence, the reporter aforementioned was killed just hours ago.
The murder of this hostage reflects an ongoing tension in Iran, of which is centered around the legitimacy of Iranian independence. Certain Communists, such as Germany’s Erick
Honecker, are in favor of Iranian liberation, claiming that ‘Iran is not America’s doormat’ and should acquire its independence as an interdependent state as swiftly as possible. Conversely, meanwhile, Western politicians, among which include U.S. President Jimmy Carter and California governor Ronald Reagan, are staunchly against Iran becoming its own sovereignpower; they believe it is necessary to ‘delegitimize’ Iran’s self-proclaimed right to rule over the
Middle East. That said, so long as the Iranian Hostage Crisis is allowed to continue, more and more innocent victims, such as the titular Washington Post reporter, will be kidnapped and slaughtered without a second thought. This is a horrific reality, and several are calling for retaliation to put an end to such mayhem.
BREAKING NEWS: Defective Official Spills the Beans and the Wave of Battles to Come
Hopes finally crushed, defective official’s leak of information results in a small-scale navel battle between the DPRK and ROK, with future conflicts on the horizon.
By Ben Lester and Shriya Iyer
Nov. 9, 2024 2:00 p.m. ET
After the defection of a DPRK official, beliefs were that the situation could not get worse.
However, with the leakage of crucial information by this official, all hopes have been dashed, and a dark future of conflict lies on the horizon. Current intel describes that a small-scale naval battle has broken out between the DPRK and ROK ships over a disputed fighting territory in the Yellow Sea along the Northern Limit Lines. Due to the abundance of Blue Crabs, which are considered lucrative due to high demand, this territory could prove to be incredibbly useful for the economic ambitions of both countries. The skirmish began with 3 crossing of 3 DPRK patrol ships and 13 fishing boats that crossed the NLL into ROK territory. The reaction of the ROK to this breach was to send patrol ships to the area of conflict to ward away the DPRK. However, when the
DPRK refused to leave, instead recognizing the Military Demarcation Line, the ROK opened fire. With the escalation of this conflict, 8 DPRK civilians have been killed. However, more surprisingly, a total of 20 ROK have been killed due to superior DPRK maneuvers. Seeing as the
DPRK has never had these maneuver previously, officials of the ROK have assumed that the defected official must have been responsibile for the leakage of crucial information. More delibiration is currently ongoing, and action is yet to be taken.
BREAKING NEWS! A naval battle has broken out between DPRK and ROK over... crabs?
A small-scale naval battle has been sparked by disagreements over disputed fishing territory in the Yellow Sea. Interestingly, the territory is disputed due to a plethora of blue crabs.
At first glance, a battle over crabs may seem implausible. However, blue crabs are considered profitable because of their high trade demand. Now, DPRK and ROK fight for this land that could have a huge impact on their economy.
This skirmish began when three DPRK patrol ships and thirteen fishing boats crossed the Northern Limit Line. In response, ROK naval officers sent five fast boats and four patrol ships to push DPRK forces away. After refusing to leave, the ROK opened fire, and led to the conflict the committee is facing now.
Torpedo boats have been sent out, innocent civilians have been killed, and ships have been sunk. The battle is ongoing and will potentially escalate. The goal of the committee is to take down the tension between delegates.

BREAKING NEWS!! British Spy Harold Lenart Killed by Argentinian Police in New Conflict
Ali Abdi and Janelle Gagnon |BBC World News|
In a shocking hurry, Margaret Thatcher, current British P.M must take immediate and decisive action as she is faced with the sudden murder of a British Spy in the
Falkland Islands. Argentinian officials killed one spy, but preserved others’ lives by choosing to hold them captive. The ransom to free the spies at hand would be a hefty 10,000,000 pesos, or about 400,000 pounds, a price to pay to retrieve the loyal spies who put their life on the line for the interests of the United Kingdom.
However, the alternative to evade the price and serve justice to those who unjustly took a British spy’s life would be to send troops in order to retrieve the unfortunate spies. The choice to decide whether or not to deploy troops to the Falkland islands is one that requires much nuance, and the CCC is currently assessing the pros and cons of potential rescue efforts. The process is manifesting itself in the form of the directive, Retaliation towards Army Invasion, which aims to assess decisions concerning appropriate conditions under which to deploy troops into the Falkland islands in the sudden and shocking war since Argentina’s swift annexation. As of now, much of the pressure of this dilemma lies in the hands of P.M
Thatcher, who is the sole individual responsible for this decision, with the aid of her cabinet during this time of crisis.

BREAKING NEWS!!! NAVAL BATTLE BREAKS OUT BETWEEN NORTH AND SOUTH KOREA ALONG YELLOW SEA; BETRAY UN IN PROCESS
Janelle Gagnon and Ali Abdi |BBC|
In a recent development, a small-scale naval battle has broken out between DPRK and Republic of Korea ships over disputed fishing territory in the Yellow Sea along the Northern Limit Line. The unprecedented fight began when 3 North Korean patrol ships and 13 fishing boats crossed the UN established limit line into South Korean territory, which finds itself around 5 miles off the coast of Yeonpyeong Island. The patrol ships, possessing military qualities, give reason to believe that North Korea may have been planning a discrete military attack against the ROK.
In response, ROK naval officers deployed five extremely fast boats and four patrol ships that aimed to push DPRK forces back over the northern limit line, previously established by the UN to avoid naval confrontation between the two nations.
Upon the sudden attack, the DPRK ships refused to leave the territory, instead recognizing another line, named the Military Demarcation Line. This resulted in the ROK immediately opening fire; this reaction may have been too severe considering that the DPRK individuals may have been uninformed of the northern limit line.
This territory is disputed due to its abundance of Blue Crabs, considered lucrative due to their high trade demand. Territory has long been contested between North Korea and the United Nations, with North Korea making claims to land that isn’t agreed upon.
As the conflict escalated, the DPRK have so far sent out three torpedo boats, met by 2 ROK cos Reports estimate that 8 DPRK have been killed, with most being citizens among fishing vessels. 20 ROK have been killed from sunken patrol ships and fast boats due to vastly superior, and surprising, DPRK maneuvers. The battle at this moment in time is continuing and has the potential for wider escalation. Moving forward, precautions should be taken moving forward to minimize damage or escalation of conflicts.

Breaking News: Heath Assassinated, and Powell Takes Over
Heath’s successful reign comes to a quick end as he is assassinated on the fortnight of the election.
By Ben Lester and Shriya Iyer
Nov. 9, 2024 5:42 p.m. ET
Heath’s comeback as the Prime Minister amidst the war has sparked mixed emotions due to his effectiveness to transition into the position amidst ongoing war and conflict left by Thatcher. Proclaimed dead on arrival, Heath’s murder is speculated to be carried out by agents of Thatcher after her ousting as a Prime Minister. However, these claims have not yet been solidified, despite identification of the assassinator. After Heath’s murder, the son of Powell and Thatcher, Oswald Thatcher Powell enters the cabinet as one of the key members. However, he displays very different opinions compared to his parents, saying that “I am anti-war. I have seen the horrors of war and I hate my parents”. The last piece to be solved is that of the missing role of minister. An election to decide this has been started immediately after announcement of the murder, with the government officals Lord Carington, Pringle, Thatcher, Briar, Powell, Leach, Parkinson, Whitelow, Terrence Lewin, and Parson running for office. Although all these officials had convincing speeches, it seem that Thatcher, Carington, and Parson have the lead, and are the most likely to win. Ultimatley, election results have not yet been decided, and we are awaiting the announcement of the new Prime Minister.

BREAKING NEWS: Social media coordinator James faces pie in near future
Janelle G. - BBC
In a recent UCONN Press Conference, it was revealed that if the UCONN MUN instagram page surpasses 650 followers, the social media coordinator will get pied in the face by the secretary general. The instagram page has quickly been gaining traction, rising from 500 to 560 followers in a day. It features groundbreaking reels and funny pictures that capture the spirit of Model United Nations. If the instagram page does not reach the goal of 650 followers, James will not be pied in the face, disappointing dozens of students. Action to spread awareness would be beneficial to reach this goal.
